A brand new $376 million-dollar hospital has just opened up in Manjimup, located South of Perth.
Warren Health Service forms a part of a $300 million capital works program delivered by the WA Country Health Service to develop and improve hospitals in 37 towns across the Wheatbelt, Great Southern, Mid-West and South-West regions.
The state-of-the-art hospital includes an expanded area for outpatient appointments, a new emergency department with well-equipped resuscitation rooms along with a new ward area and medical imaging facilities. The Warren Health Service will also host a family-focused birthing suite with a purpose-built bath which enables immersion in water for pain relief during labour, a modern, well-equipped operating theatre, mental health consultation room and impressive facilities. The new hospital has also helped attract more doctors to Manjimup, with a total of 14 local doctors now visiting the Warren Health Service.
Health Minister Roger Cook visited the brand new building earlier today.
“The Warren Health Service is an impressive hospital which brings quality care to the South-West region and puts patients first,” Mr Cook announced, “the investment in information and communication technology at the hospital means that the facility is future-proofed and can cope with advancements in technology and the delivery of health care.”
The building was a collaboration between architects Silver Thomas Hanley and construction company Pindan. The building was designed to celebrate the history of the area and reflects/honour the local timber industry. The exterior walls were formed with rammed earth and the hospital’s entrance represents tree-like canopies made from local timbers.
“The Warren Health Service will be one of the major public buildings in the area and is designed to have a civic presence, relating to the town and people who live there,” announced John Day, the present Minister for Health in 2016.
