The Western Australian government has announced new initiatives to boost housing supply and development across the state.
The $80 million Infrastructure Development Fund will support the construction of 1,700 new apartments through its Targeted Apartment Rebate stream.
Twenty-two projects will share up to $16.91 million in funding to deliver apartments in areas like White Gum Valley, Gosnells, Maddington, Subiaco and Woodbridge.
Eleven of these projects will include social housing and specialist disability accommodation options.
The government has extended eligibility for the Targeted Apartment Rebate to include NDIS-registered purpose-built specialist disability accommodation.
This change comes in response to stakeholder feedback.
Since its launch, the Infrastructure Development Fund has supported 16 projects that have begun construction on 1,321 apartments.
An additional 63 developments are in the pipeline to receive funding for over 4,000 more apartments.
A rapid Expression of Interest (EOI) process has been launched, allowing developers to identify and potentially purchase underutilised state government-owned land for residential development.
This eight-week EOI aims to accelerate housing and land supply.
Premier Roger Cook emphasised that increasing housing supply is a top priority, stating: “Getting more Western Australians into homes quickly is a top priority for my Government, and we are looking at every opportunity to increase supply.”
Planning and Housing Minister John Carey highlighted the government’s commitment to unlocking new apartment developments, stating: “The Cook Government continues its commitment to unlock a pipeline of new apartment developments in key urban Perth metropolitan precincts through our $80 million Infrastructure Development Fund.”
These initiatives are part of the state government’s broader efforts to address housing demand and increase supply across Western Australia.
