The 2024 National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards took place in Hobart, celebrating the achievements of the industry’s finest.

The event, organised by Master Builders Australia, recognised talent across 50 award categories, with CEO Denita Wawn commending the winners for their innovation and commitment to excellence.

Major Award Winners

  • National Construction Master Builder of the Year: Billbergia (NSW) Pty Ltd for their project 88 Walker, North Sydney’s tallest tower at 180 metres. This 50-level mixed-use building features a distinctive cantilever design that expanded usable floor space significantly and achieved a 5-star Greenstar rating.
  • National Residential Master Builder of the Year: Havendeen for their PALA home project in Queensland, which showcases complex architectural elements and meticulous craftsmanship.
  • National Young Builder of the Year: Matt Cates from South Australia, founder of 4Life Constructions. Cates is recognised for his leadership and innovative safety measures, including a QR code system for site inductions.
  • National Apprentice of the Year: Tyler Love from New South Wales, was acknowledged for his exceptional skills as a carpentry apprentice and his leadership in mentoring younger apprentices.

Wawn highlighted that these awards not only celebrate the structures built but also the people behind them, emphasising the resilience and leadership that define the construction industry.

This annual gathering recognises outstanding projects and individuals who set benchmarks for quality and innovation in building and construction across Australia.
