The Western Australian government has announced a housing boost for residents, unlocking land to deliver more than 4,100 new homes in Perth’s rapidly expanding northern corridor.
The development across Eglinton and Yanchep is part of a push to increase housing supply and support first-home buyers.
Satterley has been selected to develop 135 hectares in Eglinton, adjacent to the existing Allara estate. This project is expected to yield 2,100 homes, including 300 social housing units. Located near the METRONET Yanchep Line and Eglinton Station, on-site works are slated to begin late this year.
In Yanchep, a 58-hectare site will be managed by Peet, delivering up to 700 homes, including up to 100 social homes, with the first residents expected to move in by 2028. This project will also prioritise the construction of the Yanchep East Primary School.
Additionally, DevelopmentWA is seeking partners for a further 120 hectares in South Yanchep, which is projected to house nearly 3,400 residents over the next 15 years.
WA Premier Roger Cook said: “My government is focused on ensuring every Western Australian has a home, and we’re delivering on that priority by increasing land supply for more housing.
“Unlocking land for more than 4,000 homes will help more first-home buyers get into their first home, while also developing the housing construction workforce.”
Transport Minister Rita Saffioti noted that METRONET is doing more than just moving people; it is unlocking massive opportunities for more housing.
“We’re delivering thousands of new homes along the METRONET Yanchep Line, which will create new and vibrant communities for families close to essential services,” Saffioti said.
The integration of residential lots with high-frequency rail is a key pillar of the government’s plan to create vibrant, well-connected communities.
Local services are also being scaled up to meet the population surge.
Butler MLA Lorna Clarke highlighted the delivery of four new schools across Alkimos, Eglinton, and Yanchep, alongside the recently opened bulk-billed Medicare Urgent Care Clinic in Yanchep.
“This land release will help with supply and housing affordability, ensuring local families will be able to go from renting to buying.”
